Note: I’m writing this newsletter with proper capitalization because my brother said it was “distracting” and “gay,” so this one’s for you, Miles.

For those of you who don’t live in BC, or maybe you do and you have no idea what’s going on, there was an election yesterday. This is one a lot of people have been dreading for a while, ever since John Rustad was kicked out of BC United (formerly known as the BC Liberal Party) and revitalized the BC Conservative Party, a party that hasn’t mattered in decades. Under Rustad, the party is now bigger than ever and incredibly popular, clearly, with people leaving BC United for a variety of reasons, namely that the party was so big tent that those further to the right didn’t feel like the party represented them.

Since Rustad brought back the Conservative Party from the dead, BC politics has been a shitshow. This election is just the culmination of said shitshow. In this newsletter, I’m going to break down the essential facts about the history and context of each major party, and then write some of my thoughts on the results and impact of the election. I hope you enjoy, learn a thing or two, and learn that politics is fucking garbage.
